Ham & Cheese Pie – A Family Favorite

Ham & Cheese Pie – A Family Favorite

I asked my sister what she wanted for her birthday dinner and she did not hesitate. Her immediate response was “ham and cheese pie”. In our family, ham and cheese pie is the ultimate comfort food. With so much ham and cheese, how could you go wrong?

I recognize this ham and cheese pie recipe is not the healthiest recipe, so sometimes I add spinach so that it has some nutritional value. However, the rest of my family are purists: they prefer with just the ham and cheese. Either way it is packed with cheesy deliciousness.

Serve with a salad or roasted green beans.

Ingredients
  • 2 c. ham, diced
  • 8 oz. Monterey Jack cheese (2 c., diced)
  • 1 Tbsp. Parmesan cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 8 to 10 oz. frozen spinach (optional), thawed & drained
  • 1 pkg. Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
Directions
  • Step 1 Preheat oven to 325°. Dice the ham and the Monterey Jack cheese. In a large bowl stir together the ham, Monterey Jack, Parmesan, and eggs (and spinach if adding).
  • Step 2 Slice three triangles of crescent roll dough into 1/2-inch strips. Set these aside to use to create a lattice for the top pie crust.
  • Step 3 Take the remaining five Crescent Roll triangles and press them in the bottom of a pie pan for the crust. Use a fork to poke a few holes in the bottom crust.
  • Step 4 Add the ham, cheese, and egg mixture to the pie. Use the slices of Crescent roll to form a lattice on top of the pie.
  • Step 5 Bake at 325° for 50-60 min. If the crust starts to get too brown before the middle gets done, cover the crust with strips of aluminum foil or a pie crust shield to keep it from burning. The pie is done it the cheese is melted and the egg is cooked. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
