Under normal circumstances I would be going someplace far away and fun this summer. Sadly, COVID19 has clipped my wings. I know some people are starting to travel, but until my mom gets through her upcoming surgery I’m playing it safe. Given that, I’m looking for activities closer to home that will satisfy my itch to get out of the house, but do so safely. That’s why I was so excited when I heard the Atlanta Botanical Gardens is open again! It checks all the boxes – beautiful, outside, easy to social distance. As a bonus, it is constantly changing – every time you go something different will be in bloom.
This summer they have a reprise and update of their Alice in Wonderland topiary exhibit. It is so fun. Who doesn’t want to go down the rabbit hole with Alice? Where else can you see a larger-than-life Queen of Heart’s playing hedge-hog croquette? Or look for the Cheshire cats along the cat walk?
Mom and I had a great time exploring the gardens. Since they are limiting the number of visitors it felt like we had the place to our selves. We could take as much time as we wanted enjoying the peace and quite with the Lady of the Lake and looking for frogs among the lily pads. Any season of the year I love a visit to ABG, but in this season of covid19, I appreciated the local escape that much more. With all of the craziness happening in our world today, it was nice to just take a moment with my mom to stop and smell the roses.
